Landscape Photography
Guilin area is best known for the dramatic karst mountains surrounding Li River. The best locations are in Xingping and Yangshuo, in the mountaintops and river bends.
The other famous site is Longji Rice Terraces, water filled reflective pools from April to early June, changing to vivid green shoots and slowly to yellow until harvest in early October after which they are brown and not photographically interesting. Read more on Guilin's landscapes.

Portraits & Minority Village Locations
Longji is home to several different minority groups, all with distinctive dresses and customs. Yao women are known for their exceptionally long hair and beautifully hand embroidered outfits.
Chengyang is formed of 8 Dong villages, all have unique celebrations and festivals running nearly every week. During the festivals women adorn themselves in their elaborate silver headdresses and jewelry and clothes made of the painstakingly handmade indigo dyed fabric. There is a group of elderly ladies who like to sit in the main square and stitch small trinkets for sale.
Xingping, on the other hand, offers opportunities to capture the weatherworn fishermen with their cormorant birds.
